Blog Give Away.....Absolutely Free......Really........
Because it's fall and most people equate fall with crock-pot cooking, I am giving away 2 copies of 101 More Things to do with a Slow Cooker. All you have to do is leave a money saving idea for a comment to this post. I will pick the winner from the comments given on Friday, October 17th. I will post the winner's comments (because we could all use another money saving idea, right?) as well instructions of what to do so I can send you the cookbook! May the best money-saver win!

I save money by cleaning with the old broom and mops instead of the new cleaners (ex.swiffer). It's cheaper and gets the job done. Unless I can find a great deal and get them from FREE using a coupon.
Love the blog. Thanks for the great info. My money saving tip is to know what you have on hand so that you avoid buying things at peak price. I have a pantry check list that I add to after each shopping trip and check off items as I use them. This saves a costly trip to town to the grocery store for something I might already have in my storage room.
I know this might sound completely obvious- but I go to the $1 store all the time.
You can buy pasta, canned food, cereal, health and beauty, cleaning supplies, kitchen garbage sacks, reynolds wrap, etc.
My dollar store trips have saved me so much money!
Hi- I love your segments on Ksl and your blog! Something we just started doing is when we get the ads in the mail we make our menu from what is on sale-whether its chicken or ground beef etc..it has really saved us a lot!
I buy sheets for my kids at yard sales. You can usually get an entire set for $1.00 or less. I've actually never bought a brand new set of sheets for my kids from the store. They go through them so quickly with "accidents", that you don't feel bad throwing them away in the end.
I'm learning that I save more by looking at each store's ads (thanks to grocerysmarts) and planning a menu for the week according to what's on sale and what I already have in my pantry. And I must never shop when I'm hungry or everything looks good and it's hard to tell myself that I don't need it.
I keep my water heater set to a lower than normal setting. It keeps me out of the shower for so long.
Love your blog!! DILUTE... That's my tip. Dilute your shampoo, conditioner, liquid fabric softener, dish soap, etc. No one ever knows about it and most people by habit use the same "two squirts" or whatever. I've done this for years and it really can cut things in 1/2 painlessly. And, everything still works wonderfully.
I make my own breadcrumbs by saving the end pieces that no one wants. I keep them in my pantry and allow them to dry then throw them in my food processor and I have instant bread crumbs. This is really handy since my son is allergic to milk and eggs and most store bought bread crumbs have those ingredients.
Be cautious on the amount of hot water you're using during your showers. Most people just let the hot water run down the drain while they're shampooing, conditioning, combing out tangles, scrubbing their entire bodies, and shaving, when you can do all of those things with the water turned off! After rising off your body, turn the water off while you're lathering up with the soap, and/or shaving your legs (if you must have water for your razor while shaving, just fill up a cup with water). In the end, you'll save even more since you'll be able to turn down your water heater since you'll be using a lot less hot water!
My money saving tip has to do with clothing. If you go to Savers on Mondays the color tag of the week is only .99! I bought my little boy an entire winter snow outfit for $3!!! Also, shop the clearance racks at the end of the season & buy the clothes one size bigger so they will fit the next year.
I too also love to shop at the end of seasons, to find my kids clothes for a fraction of the price. I shop for winter coats, jackets, shirts, everything this way! I also shop at DI a lot and find really nice brand name clothes for a way cheap. With four kids this really helps me save money.
*I would love this cookbook! I have 3 different 101 books, but not the Slow Cooker one. Thanks
Hey there! Thanks for the chance to win a cool book!
I keep track of which stores have clearance sections... for example; like Walgreens and Target have end caps through out the store with awesoem discounts. I bought 8 boxes of Barilla pasta the other day for $2.50 and 8 boxes of microwave popcorn for $3.00! Kids Crayola paint for $0.25 a bottle! Keep your eye out it is so worth it!
money saving tip - use cash to pay for everything. it's much more difficult to spend $100 cash than $100 on plastic
I used to spend a ton of money on going to the grocery store to get produce EVERY week. It just doesn't keep long. Until I purchased fridgesmart tupperware containers. Now my produce lasts at least 6 weeks! I don't know how I did without these for so long, It has been a huge money saver!!
Grocery list swap. I occasionally swap grocery lists and coupons with a neighbor or family member. This way, you have to stick to their list. You don't impulse buy anything! It takes a little extra time to specify exactly what you want, but if you're not too picky with brands, it saves a lot! Plus, they look at your list and see what you're eating. You definitely cut back on the "junk" food you're more inclined to buy when you shop for yourself.
I just recently called my cable/internet company, and asked if there were any promotions going on, that would lower my monthly bill. And yes, there was, i saved $20 a month.
I consolidate trips around town to save on fuel. We drive less and walk/ride bikes more. We bake home made treats. I hang most of our lundry on a clothes line. We set our AC a little higher and our heat a little lower. I cut my kids and husbands hair.

I clip every coupon, even if it isn't something we normally don't use! You never know when something is going to go on sale and having every coupon, leaves your options wide open! For example, I clipped the BRUT coupons for a buck off, we have never used BRUT products before, but this week at smith's they are a buck and so I got free deoderant! Who can turn down free! Thanks for the chance to win a cookbook! Love your blog and LOVE your segment every wednesday on KSL. I record it if I won't be home!
I have a few money saving tips to share:
1- When I receive my ads each week, I decide which store has the best deals for the things I need. I do my shopping mostly at one store so I am not running all over town.
2- A friend and I swap babysitting once a week for a few hours so we can go and do our grocery shopping alone without two or three kids in tow. If I am going to a different store than my friend, we buy deals for each other at the store we go to--we give each other lists with the appropriate coupons and money to pay for each others groceries.
3- I have a database I keep of prices for items I buy all the time at Sam's Club with their current prices, size and cost per ounce (or pound, or item), then when an item I buy frequently is on sale, I can check the price at Sam's and see if it is cheaper to buy with my coupons or at Sam's.
4- I have several friends in my neighborhood who also coupon. We call on another about "Screamin' Deals" and we share our coupons if we aren't going to use them with those who are. It works wonderfullly because you can buy several more items than your 5 sets of coupons per week and build up a food storage.
While husbands shops Home Depot, I always pick up a few paint samples for my scrapbooking. They make great boarders and the Disney collection are wonderful stickers.
I love hand-me-downs! Share with friends, and exchange clothes for sizes that you need. DI is a great place to buy books- cheaper than book orders, and they are good books, too. Many series that my kids read.
Love ya Janet! You guys are the best! (PS- just found this cute little blog and I am impressed. Tell your family hello!)
